Carol Tierney works in collection development at Widener Library. Under the influence of a schoolgirl crush on Friedrich Nietzsche, she learned German in college and spent her junior year in Salzburg, Austria. Decades later a trip to Berlin reignited her passion for the language, and she began taking courses at the Goethe Institute and devouring modern German fiction.
